For all the Caribbean Carnival fans out there, Becoming a Queen is set to make its World Premiere at the 23rd Roxbury International Film Festival.
We’re also pairing the news of the premiere with the release of the trailer to get a first look at the film.
Based in Boston, Massachusetts—The ROXFILM as it is nicknamed—“is the largest festival in New England dedicated to celebrating films by, for and about people of color”, as stated on their website. Headed into its 23rd edition, ROXFILM will be a virtual festival due to the continued Covid-19 pandemic and runs from June 17th to 26th 2021.
Becoming a Queen is a feature length documentary on the rise and legacy of Canada’s most decorated Caribbean Carnival Queen, Joella Crichton, as she aims to win a historic tenth title in her last ever competition. The film premieres on Friday June 18th 2021 at 4:30 PM EST followed by a Q&A with producer, director Chris Strikes at 6:00 PM. Get your tickets here.
