CHRIS STRIKES

Founder, Producer, Director

Chris Strikes is an award-winning director, who began his career in music videos working with top Canadian and international artists, including Nelly Furtado, Kardinal Offishall and Machel Montano. Strikes expanded to producing and directing short narrative and documentary films.

In 2019, Strikes was accepted into the HotDocs Accelerator Fellowship. He was also one of only six recipients of HotDocs’ first CrossCurrents Canada Fund, with his first feature length documentary BECOMING A QUEEN. In the same year Strikes was also accepted into Reelworld’s E20 program.

 2021 proved to be fruitful for Chris Strikes, as his Caribbean Carnival documentary BECOMING A QUEEN screened in film festivals in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. BECOMING A QUEEN went on to win Best Feature Film at the 2021 CaribbeanTales International Film Festival, the Audience Choice Award for Best International Feature Film at the 2021 Baltimore International Black Film Festival and was nominated for Best Picture Editing for Documentary in the 2021 DGC Awards. 

Strikes also wrote, directed and co-produced the hit CBC ShortDocs hit film, PATTY vs. PATTY, released in 2022. Combining satirical reenactments and archival footage, PATTY vs. PATTY revisits the 1985 “Patty Wars” in Toronto when Canadian federal food inspectors threatened Jamaican patty sellers with hefty fines if they did not change the name of the world renown snack item.
